Dorado Property Perth, living the Yin and Yang of being a Mentally Healthy workplace
On 20 August I published and article The ‘Yin and Yang’ of Mental Health in the Workplace. https://www.peoplepassionperformance.com.au/insights/2019/8/20/the-yin-and-yang-of-mental-health-in-the-workplace
I would like to showcase a company that is doing just this. The company is Dorado Property (a multi-family investment house providing innovative debt and equity solutions for Australian property developers).
Dorado is led by three Directors, Thomas McClung, Tim Moore and Peter Packer and has total staff of 15, with 12 in Perth and 3 in Sydney.
Some of the things that Dorado does to create a mentally healthy work place are:
Living their Purpose and core Values of being straightforward, professional, agile, collaborative and expert
Being adaptive and compassionate leaders
Taking a collaborative, partnership approach with their clients and focussing on building enduring relationships built on trust and respect
Allowing all people to work flexibly on hours so they can engage with their families with an emphasis on limited overtime and people going home and resting for the next day.
providing Oasis counselling service (which is anonymous and staff can use up to six a year each)
A wellbeing budget and are trialling yoga and meditation classes for their people. They are exploring ideas like getting a yoga instructor on the roof of their building (for the team bonding benefit as well as individual wellbeing)
Practicing the concept of psychological safety in every way they can
having a purpose built fitout which focusses on workspaces with natural light, timber and plants
Thomas McClung has adopted the Barrett Values Centre ‘7 Levels of Consciousness’ model and understands that ‘full spectrum consciousness’ is good for business, society and people as well as contributes to creating a mentally healthy workplace.
See https://myctt.valuescentre.com/mapping-values/barrett-model/full-spectrum-consciousness®
By way of explanation full spectrum organisations display all the positive attributes of the Seven Levels of Organisational Consciousness. They master:
Survival Consciousness by focusing on profit, financial stability, and the health and safety of employees.
Relationship Consciousness by focusing on open communication, employee recognition, and customer satisfaction.
Self-esteem Consciousness by focusing on performance, results, quality, excellence, and best practices.
Transformation Consciousness by focusing on adaptability, innovation, employee empowerment, employee participation, and continuous learning.
Internal Cohesion Consciousness by developing a culture based on shared values, and a shared vision that engenders an organisation-wide climate of trust.
Making a Difference Consciousness by creating strategic alliances and partnerships with other organisations and the local community, as well as developing mentoring, coaching and leadership development programmes for employees.
Service consciousness by focusing on social responsibility, ethics, and sustainability, and keeping a long-term perspective on their business and its impact on future generations, as well as embracing compassion, humility and forgiveness.
The Dorado Directors (Thomas, Tim and Peter) should be rightly proud of what they are doing to create a mentally healthy workplace.
