APRA's approach provides another reason why leaders must not only 'Talk the Talk' but also 'Walk the Walk'
APRA took a somewhat novel approach In respect to the investigation into the anti-money laundering issues with CBA, by sending an online staff survey to nearly 10,000 CBA staff. Around 6,000 responses were received. A key issue identified was: Whilst leaders espouse the values, there are clear examples of leaders’ behavioural indiscretions which have had a blind eye turned to them. To me, a key take away is the need for leaders to live an breath the organisations values in everything they do. This is not always easy to do, but my view is that remuneration and bonuses need to be linked to 'living the values' and a anonymous review by staff of leaders' performance against the organisations values should be one element of the remuneration process.
